How to get there

Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE) is the primary gateway. From there, you can arrive spectacularly via "Alilaguna" water bus or water taxi. Alternatively, trains arrive at Venezia Santa Lucia station, located directly on the Grand Canal. Cars must be left at the parking garages of Piazzale Roma or Tronchetto at the city entrance.

  1. Deliberately get lost in the alleys of Castello to find the authentic Venice away from the crowds.
  2. Use a "Traghetto" to cross the Grand Canal for just a few euros (a short gondola ride used by locals).
  3. Visit St. Mark's Square at sunrise or late at night when the day-trippers have left.
  4. Drink an "Ombra" (a small glass of wine) and eat "Cicheti" in local Bacari bars.
  5. Visit Libreria Acqua Alta – one of the world's most unique bookstores where books are stored in gondolas.
